WHAT IS QUILT HVAC?

A complete comfort system.
Designed around your rooms.

Quilt is an all-electric ductless heat pump that heats and cools your home. Think mini-split technology, brought together with considered design and intuitive controls.

An outdoor heat-pump unit connects to indoor air handlers in the rooms being served. Refrigerant lines move heat between them; the indoor units deliver conditioned air directly into those spaces.

The Quilt Dial and Quilt App let you choose room temperatures and schedules. We design the equipment configuration around your home, from a few difficult rooms to a whole-home plan.

LONG-TERM CONFIDENCE / LOCAL SUPPORT

12 years of equipment coverage.
A different service approach.

Freedom’s residential Quilt offering includes 12-year equipment warranty coverage for the indoor and outdoor heat-pump units, including the compressor and covered internal parts.

Diagnosis and replacement labor are billed separately. Dial and Quilt Sense have separate 3-year manufacturer coverage. Commercial applications have shorter terms.

Annual professional inspection, maintenance and cleaning are required. Damage from improper installation, neglected maintenance, misuse and external causes is excluded; normal maintenance, cosmetic damage and software are not equipment-warranty benefits.

Written warranty terms govern, including applicable shipping costs and other exclusions. Read the manufacturer warranty

Diagnose. Replace the affected unit. Restore comfort.

If a blower motor or another covered internal component fails, we diagnose the fault and confirm the claim. Our Quilt service approach replaces the affected indoor air handler or outdoor unit as an assembly, rather than rebuilding it component by component.

That can reduce time spent on component-level repairs and help get your comfort back sooner. Replacement approval, compatible stock and scheduling still apply; a specific repair time is not guaranteed.

QUILT HEAT PUMPS / COMMON QUESTIONS

Understand the system.
Choose with confidence.

What is Quilt HVAC?

Quilt is a complete, all-electric heating and air-conditioning system for your home. It is a ductless heat pump, often called a mini-split: an outdoor unit works with indoor air handlers to heat or cool the rooms they serve. The Quilt Dial and phone app are the controls for that equipment.

Instead of sending heated or cooled air from one central unit through ducts, Quilt delivers it directly into your living spaces. You can give rooms their own temperature settings and schedules—for example, a cooler bedroom and a different setting in your home office. The system moves heat outdoors in summer and brings heat indoors in winter.

Quilt can serve an addition, several uncomfortable rooms or a whole home. The number and placement of indoor and outdoor units depend on the rooms, insulation and heating and cooling needs. Individual room settings do not mean every room on the same outdoor unit can choose an opposite heating or cooling mode.

Freedom HVAC helps turn those options into a practical plan: which rooms to serve, where equipment will go and how you will control it. Our Quilt heat-pump guide explains the system in more detail.

Is Quilt a mini-split or just a smart thermostat?

Quilt is a mini-split heating and cooling system, not just a smart thermostat. Buying a Dial alone would not turn your existing furnace or air conditioner into a Quilt system. Quilt includes the equipment that actually moves heat, along with the controls that tell it what to do.

The outdoor unit contains the compressor, while the indoor air handlers deliver warm or cool air into your rooms. The Dial is the physical temperature control you can turn or touch; the Quilt App gives you another way to manage the system. They work together as parts of the same product.

This distinction matters when comparing quotes. A thermostat upgrade changes how existing equipment is controlled; a Quilt installation adds or replaces heating and cooling equipment and requires professional installation. We explain the full equipment and installation scope so you can compare complete projects rather than the price of a control device. See the Quilt configuration guide for the pieces of a system.

What makes Quilt different from a traditional mini split?

Quilt uses familiar ductless heat-pump technology, with particular attention to the way the equipment looks, feels and connects. Its indoor units, Dial and app are designed as one experience, with customizable covers, built-in accent lighting and room-level controls.

You can choose a real white oak veneer cover or a white cover that can be painted or wallpapered. The integrated light has adjustable color and brightness. The Dial combines a touchscreen with a rotary control, while the app adds schedules and energy-use information. These are features you interact with in your rooms, beyond the heating and cooling itself.

Quilt also supports occupancy-based Auto-Away, software updates and, with your permission and connectivity, partner diagnostic tools. Other mini-splits can have smart controls, attractive finishes and advanced features too; the useful comparison is the exact equipment and controls included in each proposal.

Freedom helps you decide whether Quilt’s design and control experience suits your home and how you actually use it. Explore the Quilt finishes and controls alongside the installation requirements, rather than choosing on appearance alone.

Does Quilt both heat and cool?

Yes. The same Quilt equipment provides heating in winter and air conditioning in summer. You do not need a separate Quilt heating unit and cooling unit for each room.

A heat pump moves heat instead of creating warmth by burning fuel inside your home. In heating mode, it collects heat from outdoor air and brings it indoors—even when that air feels cold to you. In cooling mode, it moves heat from the room outside. The indoor unit circulates air through the room while the outdoor equipment does its part of that work.

That gives you a year-round system, but the amount of heating or cooling it can deliver depends on the selected configuration and outdoor conditions. Rooms sharing one outdoor unit also share its heating-or-cooling mode; separate temperature settings are not the same as opposite modes at once.

We plan for both seasons. A bedroom that needs strong summer cooling and a room with a large winter heating need may influence the equipment choice differently. Our system configurations page is a useful starting point for that conversation.

Can Quilt replace my furnace and central air conditioner?

Yes, Quilt can replace a furnace and central air conditioner as a whole-home heating and cooling solution when the installation is designed to serve the entire home. It can also serve only part of a house while existing equipment continues to handle other spaces.

Whole-home replacement means planning comfort room by room. We calculate how much heating your home needs on a cold winter day and how much cooling it needs in summer. We also look at insulation, windows, ceiling heights and room connections. A unit in an open living area should not simply be assumed to keep closed bedrooms comfortable.

The project may involve several indoor units and more than one outdoor unit, along with electrical work, refrigerant lines and drainage. We discuss what happens to the old furnace, air conditioner and ducts, and whether any supplemental heating should remain in the plan. Existing equipment should not be removed before that plan is clear.

Bring us your comfort problems and goals, whether you want to replace everything or improve a few rooms first. Freedom will explain which spaces the proposed system covers and how it will handle winter conditions. See our installation planning information.

Does Quilt need ductwork?

No. Quilt’s indoor air handlers deliver heating and cooling directly into the rooms they serve, so they do not need air-distribution ducts. That can make Quilt useful for homes without ducts, additions or spaces that are difficult to serve through an existing duct system.

Ductless does not mean there are no connections or installation work. Each indoor unit needs refrigerant piping, electrical connections and a drain for water produced during cooling. Those connections must be routed between the equipment and an appropriate drain location, with wall penetrations and finishing considered as part of the installation.

We also need suitable wall space and the clearances Quilt specifies around the units. Placement affects airflow, appearance, service access and the route the connections take. Existing ducts are a separate decision: they may still serve equipment you are keeping, so a Quilt project does not automatically include removing them.

Freedom walks through those details before quoting the work. We show you the proposed unit locations and connection routes so you understand what will be visible inside and outside your home. Review our Quilt installation planning guide for the main considerations.

Does Quilt work in a Missouri winter?

Yes. Quilt is designed for cold-weather heating, and its current two-zone and three-zone specifications include heating output at outdoor temperatures as low as −13°F. That makes it a serious option to evaluate for a Missouri home, including as part of a whole-home replacement.

The useful question is how much warmth the equipment can deliver when your house needs it most. As an example, Quilt lists 18,000 BTU per hour of heating for its current two-zone system at −5°F, and 16,000 at −13°F. BTU per hour simply measures heating output. Those are figures for that outdoor-unit configuration, not a promise that each connected room receives that amount.

A drafty house with large windows may need more heat than a well-insulated house of the same size. We calculate your home’s needs during cold weather and compare them with the actual equipment proposed. We also consider outdoor placement, snow clearance and drainage, and discuss whether supplemental heat should be part of the plan.

Freedom will explain the winter plan in everyday terms: which rooms are covered, what heating the system can provide and what happens during particularly cold conditions. The current Quilt specifications are the reference for equipment figures; our heat-pump guide explains the basics.

Can one room heat while another room cools?

Yes, when those rooms are served by different outdoor units. Indoor units connected to the same Quilt outdoor unit cannot provide heating and cooling at the same time. They can have different temperature settings, but the shared equipment needs a compatible operating mode.

For example, a bedroom and office connected to one outdoor unit can have different comfort targets while both are using heating. Asking the bedroom to heat while that office calls for cooling creates a mode conflict. Quilt’s service manual specifically identifies this situation; it is not resolved simply by choosing two different temperatures in the app.

A home with multiple outdoor units can have one group heating while another group cools. This can matter in spring and fall, when a sunny room may feel warm while another part of the house is chilly. Which rooms share outdoor equipment is therefore an important design choice.

Tell Freedom if opposite heating and cooling is something you want. We will show you how the proposed rooms are grouped, explain the limits and consider a configuration that fits your priorities. Our Quilt system configurations page explains why the outdoor-unit arrangement matters.

Can I control Quilt with my phone?

Yes. The Quilt App for iOS and Android lets you manage room temperatures and schedules, view system information and review energy-use reporting. Connected remote access lets you adjust the system when you are away from home.

For everyday use, that might mean giving your home office a weekday schedule or changing a bedroom setting without walking to its control. Quilt also offers Auto-Away settings that use occupancy sensing to adjust comfort when a room is unoccupied. Energy information can help you understand how the system is being used; it is not a guarantee of a particular utility bill.

You do not have to reach for a phone for every temperature change. The Quilt Dial provides a physical touchscreen and rotary control, with room and whole-home control features. Remote app access and other connected services depend on the relevant network and internet connections.

During the installation walkthrough, Freedom helps you understand the Dial, app, room names and schedules. We also explain optional data sharing for partner diagnostics separately from everyday controls. Explore Quilt controls and finishes to see how these parts fit together.

What happens if my internet goes down?

You can still control Quilt from the Dial during an internet outage if your home Wi-Fi network remains running. Quilt says the Dial can communicate directly with the indoor units over that local network without needing an internet connection.

Your Wi-Fi network and your internet service are different things. Your router connects devices inside the home; your internet provider connects that network to outside services. If the provider has an outage but the router and equipment still have power, local Dial communication can continue. A router failure or a power outage is a different situation.

Remote access from outside the home, cloud-connected diagnostic services and downloading software updates need internet connectivity. The important distinction is that losing internet service does not, by itself, remove the Dial’s local connection. If the router also stops working, that local connection is interrupted. Quilt still needs electrical power to heat or cool.

Freedom checks the planned connectivity and explains the documented controls during your walkthrough. Tell us if internet reliability is a concern, so we can distinguish an internet outage from a Wi-Fi or equipment issue. Our Quilt service and support information provides a place to start if you need help afterward.

How much does Quilt cost to install?

Quilt installation is priced for your home and the complete project. There is no single price that accurately covers a one-room installation, several rooms and a whole-home replacement. Freedom provides a written quote after reviewing the spaces and the work needed.

The number of indoor and outdoor units is one part of the cost. Installation also depends on the electrical supply, where units can be mounted, how far piping must travel, where cooling water can drain and how the connections will be finished. Access to the work area and removal of equipment you are replacing can affect the scope too.

When comparing quotes, look for what is actually included: equipment and controls, electrical work, piping and drainage, mounting, startup, finishing and any removal work. Ask which items are allowances or separately quoted. Our 12-year equipment warranty is an ownership benefit; it does not mean future diagnosis or replacement labor is free.

Tell us which rooms you want to improve, your town and whether this is an addition, renovation or replacement. That lets us start a useful consultation and explain the next step toward an installed quote. See Quilt installation planning and our existing payment information; current options are discussed for your project.

What warranty does Freedom offer on Quilt?

Freedom HVAC’s residential Quilt offering includes a 12-year equipment warranty for the indoor and outdoor heat-pump units, including the compressor and covered internal parts. We are a Quilt Select Certified Partner. Diagnosis and replacement labor are billed separately.

Think of equipment coverage and the work needed to service it as two separate costs. If a failure is covered, the equipment benefit is handled under Quilt’s warranty; the technician’s diagnosis, removal and replacement work are not included as free labor. Dial and Quilt Sense have separate three-year manufacturer coverage rather than the heat-pump equipment’s 12-year term.

The written warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship and requires annual professional inspection, maintenance and cleaning. It has exclusions, including damage from improper installation, neglected maintenance, misuse and external causes. Commercial installations have different, shorter coverage. Keeping installation and service records helps when support is needed.

For a qualifying hardware failure, Freedom’s service approach is to replace the affected indoor air handler or outdoor unit under Quilt’s approved process. We explain the claim, labor and any other applicable charges before work is approved. Read our Quilt service guidance and the complete manufacturer warranty for the terms that govern coverage.

What happens if a Quilt blower motor or compressor fails?

We diagnose the problem first. For a qualifying covered hardware failure, Freedom’s Quilt service approach is to replace the affected indoor air handler or outdoor unit as an assembly, rather than rebuilding it component by component. A blower motor problem does not automatically mean replacing every unit in your home.

That approach can shorten the time spent on component-level repairs. For example, when an indoor unit has a confirmed covered hardware fault, the affected air handler is the assembly considered for replacement. A covered compressor failure concerns the affected outdoor unit. Troubleshooting still matters because a control, connection or installation problem may require a different solution.

Quilt reviews the claim through its approved process. Replacement equipment availability, approval and scheduling affect when the work can happen. The warranty permits replacement equipment of like kind and quality, including new or remanufactured equipment; we do not promise a brand-new unit or a fixed turnaround in every case. Diagnosis and replacement labor remain separate charges.

Freedom explains the findings and next steps before proceeding. Keep your installation date and service records available, and tell us which room or unit is affected. Our Quilt service and warranty support page explains how to ask for help.

What happens when a Quilt system needs service?

Start by telling Freedom what has changed: which room is affected, whether the issue is heating, cooling or controls, and when it happens. We help determine whether it is an operating question, a maintenance need or a fault that requires a service visit.

With your permission to share system data and a working connection, Quilt Tools can give partners diagnostic information and alerts. That can help us investigate a problem that occurs at certain times, rather than relying only on how the system behaves during a visit. Remote information supports diagnosis; it does not replace every on-site check or guarantee that a fault can be repaired remotely.

If service is needed, we explain the next step and applicable charges. Not every service call is a warranty claim. For confirmed covered hardware failures, we follow Quilt’s approved process and Freedom’s affected-unit replacement approach. Diagnosis and labor are separate from the equipment warranty, and appointment and replacement timing depend on availability.

We do not promise around-the-clock monitoring or automatic dispatch from an alert. Contact us when you need help, and share any message shown in the app or on the Dial. Use the existing Quilt service and support page for care information and the service request route.

How does Quilt compare with Mitsubishi and LG?

Quilt belongs on a premium ductless-system shortlist alongside higher-end Mitsubishi Electric and LG products. The right choice depends on the specific equipment, controls and installation proposed for your home—not the brand name alone.

Quilt emphasizes a coordinated indoor-unit, Dial and app experience, with customizable covers, integrated accent lighting and connected partner diagnostics. Mitsubishi Electric’s Designer wall-mounted products and its control options offer another approach to appearance and comfort management. LG’s ARTCOOL Gallery and Mirror lines offer distinctive indoor designs, with ThinQ controls on compatible equipment. Smart control and attractive equipment are not exclusive to Quilt.

Compare the proposals on the same practical questions: which rooms are served, heating available in cold weather, heating-and-cooling mode limits, sound under comparable conditions, included controls, installation scope, equipment warranty and separately billed labor. Features, accessories and warranty terms vary by model and installer. A published efficiency figure alone does not establish the lowest bill in your home.

Freedom can explain what a proposed Quilt configuration includes and help you identify differences in another written proposal. We do not claim Quilt wins every specification. The goal is a system that fits your comfort needs, design preferences and service expectations. Explore the Quilt product and control options before your consultation.
